Heiner Nonnenbroich Fulfills Our Pipe Dreams

I first saw a pipe by Heiner Nonnenbroich on ebay in the fall of 2004. I bid and lost. After that I “googled” him, found his website (http://www.hn-pipes.de) and emailed him. He turned out to be very friendly (and he speaks English very well, which is very good for all of us mono-linguistic Americans!) and he was very willing to make me a pipe. He did and it was very nice. After much talk and correspondence, Mark decided he wanted a Heiner pipe and I wanted another. Mark picked a design from Heiner’s website and I proceeded to send sketches via email to Heiner about the pipe I wanted. Although he already had a long waiting list of orders, he was very accommodating and seemed to be genuinely happy to make our pipes. It took a few months but they were well worth the wait! Check out the current issue (Spring 2006) of Pipes & Tobaccos Magazine for more about Heiner in the article titled “Impressive New Carvers of Germany”. – T

Stage 1 – Rough sketch of “my” pipe that I sent to Heiner. – T

Stage 2 – Heiner begins making my pipe.

Stage 3 – With a cumberland bit.

Stage 3 – After more correspondence, Heiner made a longer stem and my “Perfect” pipe was finished. Two days later (thanks to Fedex) I was holding it in my hands, and it is fantastic! It’s beautiful and perfectly engineered!

And here is Mark’s Delight...– T

...and a word from Mark – I have not purchased many “high end”pipes before, but let me say that this will not be my last! “Mark’s Delight,” the pipe that Heiner made for me, is exquisite in every aspect. The subtle coloration mix of the finish really impressed me, the shape is wonderful, and it smokes like a dream! – M

First Smoke – Mark and I tried out our new pipes for the first time (at our monthly get together at a friendly little bar in Memphis). My first smoke lasted over an hour (with only one relight midway through)! I have three pipes from Heiner now, and they are all great – each one better than the last. I can't imagine how good his pipes will be in another year! I advise everyone to get one while you can. – T

Look for Tim’s Work in P & T Magazine

The folks at The Briary in Homewood, Alabama (a suburb of Birmingham) commissioned Tim to do a painting of their store, a farmhouse that dates from the late 1800’s, for use in their next ad in P & T magazine. Some of you might recall we visited there last summer. Be on the the lookout for Tim’s artwork! – M
