Chicagoland 2007
A Note from Tim: I attended the Chicago Pipe Show alone this year. Mark had a daughter’s graduation to attend and David just didn’t want to go with me. He's like that. I had a great time anyway. I saw several pipe world friends and purchased several pipes and a lot of tobacco. I came back tired and broke. – T

Danish pipe maker and friend Poul Ilsted with my new Ilsted pipe.– T

Danish pipe maker Manduela filmed the show and will have DVD’s available. Pretty cool – I want one! – T

Poul Ilsted and pipe collector Neill Roan talk pipes up in Poul’s room. I met Neill (Zulucollector) through Smokers Forum. He’s a great guy and he really knows pipes. – T

Ilsted’s table at the show.– T

Saturday Morning. – M

German pipe makers Jurgen Moritz and Frank Axmacher. It was their first Chicago show. They both make amazing pipes. You can see more of their pipes here: http://www.germanpipemakers.de/index.html! – T

Kjeld (Red Hat) Sorensen. Check out his pipes on his new website: www.redhatpipes.com – T

Nina + Glenda. The nicest pipe smoking couple around! I had a great time meeting them. – T

Swedish pipe maker Martin Vollmer of Vollmer & Nilsson Pipes. – T

The other half of Vollmer & Nilsson pipes, Anders Nilsson. They made a sandblasted lovat with a silver band and cumberland bit for me. It is a fantastic pipe. I will be buying more V & N pipes! – T

Kevin from California. Kevin and his wife Janice attended the show for the first time this year. I hope they come back next year... I had a great time with them. – T

Wolfgang Becker. I was able to purchase two of Wolfgang’s pipes. Unfortunately this one was out of my price range. – T

Wolfgang’s wife, Gitta, with Wolfgang’s pipes. Gitta and Wolfgang are two of my favorite people. I’m sorry I only get to see them once a year. – T

Pipe maker John Crosby. I need to get one of his pipes.– T

Pipe maker Stephen Downie and pipe enthusiast Nina Cohen.– T

You can’t really see that far, but my room was the second to the last room in the building. I had to walk about a mile to get coffee in the mornings.– T

But Where Was Mark?
A Note from Mark: I am sorry to have missed the Chicago Pipe Show this year. Even though I have only been to a couple, I have made lots of friends and it has become a huge event for me. Thanks to everyone who inquired after me. I hope to see you next year and hey, dont hesitate to e-mail me anytime! The good news is that my reason for missing the show was due to the fact my youngest daughter, Rachel was graduating from college!! I am very proud of her and am certain that she will go on to do great things in life. - M

Here she is with me and her mom Pat in front of the fountain at the Mississippi University for Women, or as its know in these parts “the W”. I know what youre thinking. “How did he wind up with such beautiful women in his life?”. What can I tell you? They are drawn to pipe rack makers like moths to a flame.
Hope to see you next year! - M

Mystery Solved!
In the last news, we reported on a mysterious incident that too place in Chicago, 2006. See the frightening evidence below:

These are the guys who found my camera. The one on the right is pipe maker John Crosby. I don’t know who the scary guy is. – T

Here is an email we later received:

Howdy gents,

Someone linked to your site today on a forum I frequent. You guys make some amazing racks, very unique, and beautifully executed. If I ever stop buying pipes and tobacco out of my pipe budget, I will get in touch. It was quite hilarious to stumble upon this photo in the News section, as I saw myself creepily smiling back at me.

Crosby and I thought your camera was Roger Wallensteins, I dont know if he was borrowing it, or if he just happened to pass out where you left it. We decided it was best not to leave the camera to be discovered by someone with sticky fingers, and decided to leave Roger a little present. It appears you were the innocent victims of a drive-by shooting of sorts. I apologize for any trauma. :)

Cheers,

Scott Anderson
